March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 18

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V GSR

Registration - R159 KDS

Chassis No. - CP9A-0003031

M.O.T. - April 2023

Odometer - 101,057 Km (62,793 Miles)

Like all EVO Vs, ‘R159 KDS’ looks mighty purposeful even at rest. We understand it was imported two years ago and that the vendor is its only UK keeper to date. The car’s all white bodywork is complemented by silver-painted OZ alloy wheels shod with Yokohama Advan Fleva tyres, red Brembo brake calipers, red Ralliart mudflaps and a large Ralliart rear screen banner. The predominantly black interior features grey fleck cloth inserts to its Recaro seats. Ahead of the Momo leather-covered steering wheel lie both a turbo boost gauge and turbo timer, while the integral Alpine CD/radio head unit is fed by a boot-mounted six-stack autochanger. The vendor informs us that, as far as he’s aware, the EVO is a totally standard car free of modifications. It has, however, benefited from the recent replacement of the clutch and battery and a general service. He presently rates the turbo engine and five-speed manual gearbox as ‘excellent’ and the bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. He is now offering the car complete with glass sunroof – the odometer currently indicates 101,057 kilometres (62,793 miles).

Mitsubishi’s Evo (Lancer Evolution to give it its full title) has been with us since 1992, during which time there have been 10 generations, each comprising a 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine powering a fourwheel drive, four-door saloon. The EVO V reigned for exactly one year from January 1998 and brought a number of changes that included: flared arches front and rear, new adjustable alloy rear spoiler, 10mm increase in track; increase in wheel diameter from 16 to 17 inches in order to accommodate Brembo brakes; an increase in engine torque to 373Nm. Power output, however, remained the same at 276bhp.

In summary:

  • One UK keeper since being imported two years ago
  • Has benefited from a recent service, and new clutch and battery
  • Comes with sunroof, boost gauge and turbo timer
