The Bolesworth Castle March 2024 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 18

2009 Jaguar XFR Saloon
500 horsepower four-door super saloon, with full service history

Registration – AD59 VEN

Chassis No. – SAJAC08R5AMR67360

M.O.T. – October 24

Odometer – 82,498

With a deep front bumper and prominent bonnet louvres, the phrase “wolf in sheep’s clothing” can’t quite be attributed to the Jaguar XFR, but with much of the XF’s restrained yet stylish design retained, it’s not far wide of the mark. And wolfish the XFR most certainly is. This example is presented in silver, with black interior, the colour scheme is subtle and comes in under the radar. The engine though does anything but. Under those louvres sits Jaguar Land Rover’s all-aluminium supercharged 5.0 V8, which when new produced more than 500bhp… and a glorious, guttural noise. Matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission, it’s good for sportscar-bothering performance; just like Jaguar saloons of old. The cabin is trimmed in Warm Charcoal leather, with Knurled Aluminium and Satin American Walnut veneer, and includes colour touchscreen system, as well as Bowers & Wilkins premium audio. The vendor states that all areas of the XFR can be described as in good condition, and this example is offered with 82,498 miles on the clock, a new set of tyres, and a full service history.

Jaguar’s XF luxury saloon was introduced in the autumn of 2007 as a replacement for the more classically styled S Type. Developed at the company’s Whitley design centre in Coventry and manufactured at the historic Castle Bromwich facility near Birmingham, the newcomer was largely based on a much-modified version of Ford’s DEW98 platform. The body was penned by Ian Callum and the model ultimately offered in saloon and estate car guise, and with a range of engines from 2.0-litre turbocharged to 5.0-litre supercharged – the unit that powered the XFR derivative. Launched at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and in production until 2015, the XFR executive express had a healthy output of 503bhp, but featured few outward clues to its performance potential – the salient revisions being little more than a revised front bumper and spoiler, 20 inch alloy wheels and discreet R badges front and rear. But perform it most certainly could, with the sprint to 60mph taking just 4.7 seconds and the terminal speed being electronically limited to 155mph. All but the last of the XFR line drive through either a six or eight-speed automatic gearbox.

In summary:

· Smart example of a subtle British bruiser

· Fantastic opportunity to own one of the most characterful engines of modern times

· Comes complete with service history and a current MOT
