‘P4 MPD’ is finished in Porsche Iris Blue and trimmed in a mix of cream and blue leather. According to Experian Autocheck it has had just six keepers to date, the most recent of whom has retained the car for the last 16 years, having purchased it from the renowned prestige car dealer, John Holland of Sheffield in 2006 at 42,000 miles. Some eight years of SORN go some way to explaining why very little has been added to the original total in all this time. The car has, however, been continuously maintained and the file shows bills from Noble Motorsport of Chesterfield and RT Racing and Gunning Automotive of Sheffield, the most recent of which is dated May this year and covers repairs prior to an MOT, the MOT itself, an oil change, and the replacement of the rev-counter and flexible brake hoses. Subsequent actions include the renewal of the battery and nearside rear tyre as recently as this month. The vendor currently grades the five-speed manual transmission and fibreglass bodywork as ‘excellent’, the V8 engine and paintwork as ‘good’ and the interior as ‘average’. The latter mark takes into account a slight discolouration of the carpets due to water ingress and some deterioration of the facia veneer.
The Chimaera shared its backbone chassis and derivatives of the Rover V8 engine with the Griffith. The engine options ranged from 4.0 to 5.0-litres, even the smallest of which pumped out 240bhp - sufficient to power the two-seater roadster to 60mph in 5.1 seconds and on to a terminal speed of over 150mph. Production continued until 2002/2003, by which time 5,256 Chimaeras had vacated the Blackpool factory, making it the most popular TVR of all time.
