1965 Ford Mustang Convertible
***NO RESERVE*** Recently imported from California and supplied with a NOVA certificate

Registration – N/A

Chassis No. – TBC

M.O.T. – Exempt

Odometer – 32,111

This evocative looking Series I Ford Mustang Convertible is a recent arrival from the USA with it having been imported from Los Angeles in 2024. This fine looking example from the first full model year is the less often seen straight six cylinder 3.3-litre version fitted with the “T-Code” engine. This renders the Mustang as the most economical and manageable for the modern UK roads and conditions. The Mustang is yet to be registered in the UK but comes complete with its Nova documentation and original US Certificate of Title making this a straightforward paperwork process. Reported to drive superbly, this Mustang has benefitted from much previous remedial work, especially mechanically, with some bodily repairs left to do. Not yet being UK registered we have been unable to perform our usual history checks on the Mustang. With this in mind please satisfy yourself over the condition of this iconic Pony car before committing to buy. Offered here with NO RESERVE.

In response to the famed Lee Iacocca’s demand for a new “small car” the Ford Mustang appeared during 1964. The original brief included stipulations that it should seat four, weigh less than 2,500 Ibs (1,100 kg) and cost less than $2,500. This watershed sports car would launch and define the Pony car movement. This highly original example exhibits all the key attributes that made it so desired and successful a full 60 years ago. That long bonnet and forward raked nose gave, and gives, the Mustang a sense of urgency even at a standstill. The subtle side strakes traverse the doors and terminate in a chrome finished vent in the rear wings. The Caspian Blue paintwork and Wimbledon White hood work perfectly together. The front inner wings and slam panel have been replaced but it is noted some minor welding is required to the underside. As well as the fitted faux-spoked hubcaps fitted, the vendor notes that a set of original “Pony” hubcaps are also included. There is also a brand new Made in USA car cover included. The four seater interior is finished in blue vinyl giving a very authentic period feel to this Mustang’s cabin. This is further underscored by the original radio cassette player which is in working order. The original steering wheel is present, and the cabin is noted for not “having a single crack” despite its life in the Californian sun. Even the chrome instrument surrounds are described as “excellent.” The locks are all working and two original “Pony” keys are present. A new electric hood motor has also been fitted. With the vendor recommending a respray, the existing paintwork and bodywork are rated as “average.” The interior is rated “excellent to good.”

This entry level Mustang Convertible is fitted with the 3.3-litre straight six “T Code” engine. This was originally rated at 120bhp and is desirable for its power to economy ratio. This mated to a three speed automatic transmission feeding power to the rear wheels. The engine has previously been refurbished and the brakes upgraded to a high standard. A new battery tray is present as supplied by a New York specialist with the replacement box currently stowed in the boot. The mechanical aspects of this Mustang are all rated as “good.”

In summary:

  • A striking looking Ford Mustang convertible in a highly original condition
  • Offered with all the paperwork required for UK registration
  • Complete with much recent valuable work undertaken
