Presented in Silver with grey and blue cloth interior, this 1982 Ford Escort XR3 is an appealing example of the early carburetted XR3, the model that marked Ford’s re-entry into the performance hatchback market and laid the groundwork for the XR and RS legends that followed.
Originally supplied new in Germany by Ford-Werke AG, Köln, the car retains its original Ford German service booklet and delivery documentation, confirming its early provenance prior to being registered in the UK. Displaying 146,000 miles, it presents as a solid and usable example that retains much of its period-correct detailing — including the twin front driving lamps, rear spoiler, original cloth-trimmed sports seats, and factory dashboard layout.
Powered by the lively 1.6-litre CVH engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, the XR3 delivered brisk performance and agile handling, establishing itself as one of the most iconic hot hatches of the early 1980s. The accompanying file includes the original handbook, Ford service documents, Haynes manual, spare keys, and assorted invoices and MOT certificates, attesting to careful, long-term ownership.
