The Saab 900 was an innovative successor to the popular 99 model and shared the earlier car’s platform. ‘F573 BAH’ is a rare example of the breed in terms of provenance, mileage and condition. The current owner acquired ‘F573 BAH’ in March 2024 to become just the Saab’s fourth keeper. Previous to this the 900i was part of a private collection. The second owner was a Saab mechanic from the supplying dealer who retained ‘F573 BAH’ for 34 years and cherished it throughout that period. The first registered keeper was the supplying dealer. ‘F573 BAH’ is also notable for its complete originality right down to the dealership stickers and original number plates. ‘F573 BAH’ is being sold with copious amounts of supporting paperwork including the original book pack and MOT valid until November 2025. With an advisory free MOT history to date, ‘F573 BAH’ is being offered here with NO RESERVE.
With the term “time capsule” oft overused, it remains an entirely apt description of ‘F573 BAH.’ With so long in the ownership of a time served Saab engineer, this 900i has been maintained to a very impressive condition throughout. That is true of the original paintwork and bodywork with the 900i’s big hatchback configuration rendering it almost peerlessly practical. The spacious cabin is finished in grey leather and exhibits the signature Saab minimalist Swedish aesthetic developed from the company’s jet fighters. That big boot still provides a home for the original tool kit and spare wheel. The bodywork, paintwork and interior of ‘F573 BAH’ are all rated as “good.”
In this 1989 model the Saab 1985cc “H” B201 engine is utilised in eight valve, fuel injected form. This was originally rated at 116bhp and around 123Ib-ft of torque. In ‘F573 BAH’ this power is routed to the front wheels via a Borg-Warner T37 automatic transmission. This combination is renowned for its robust reliability and offers a decent combination of performance and economy. ‘F573 BAH’s’ transmission and electrics are rated as “excellent,” and the engine as “good.”
