  Lot 2

1955 Morris Minor 1000 'Split Screen'
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - FAS 677

Chassis No. - FAA11/343473

M.O.T. - December 2022

Odometer - 55,472

The vendor informs us that this characterful split-screen Minor is ‘very solid and drives superbly’. It certainly looks extremely usable, and all the more so for the various upgrades and accessories that have been lavished upon it over the years. For example, it now boasts a 1098cc A Series engine in place of the original 803cc version. The electrical system has been switched from positive to negative earth, and an alternator installed in place of the dynamo. Later seats with superior contours have also been fitted, while the lengthy list of accessories includes: radio/CD, heater, twin spot lamps, door-mounted rear view mirrors, badge bar, rear luggage rack, metal windscreen visor, headlamp eyebrows, and fishtail exhaust trim. We understand the gearbox has recently been replaced with a new one at a cost of £650, and the vendor now classes the engine, transmission and maroon/cream interior trim as ‘excellent’ and the four-door bodywork and black paintwork as ‘good’. The odometer currently displays a credible though unwarranted total mileage of 55,472.

Morris’s Minor is almost as universal a symbol of England as the London bus and the red telephone box. Moreover, with over 1.6million being manufactured in its 23-year reign, it is unquestionably one of the most successful British cars of all time. We shouldn’t be too surprised, however, as the man leading the design team, Alec Issigonis, went on to pen a succession of ground-breaking cars, including the ubiquitous Mini. The first version of the Minor, the side-valve MM, was produced from 1948 to 1952. The ensuing Series II model brought a new engine to the party – the 803cc OHV A Series unit. Some 269,838 Series IIs had been produced by the time production ceased in 1956.

In summary:

  • A well-presented example bristling with accessories
  • Nowadays boasts a 1098cc A Series engine
  • Benefits from a recent gearbox replacement
