The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 2

1956 Triumph 500 Speed Twin

Registration - 925 HML

Chassis No. - S179082

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 00088

It comes as no surprise that this matching-numbers Speed Twin has been the subject of a full professional restoration, as it presents in arguably better-than-new condition. Its silver/blue livery is matched to a white-piped black seat. The vendor has no hesitation in rating the twin-cylinder engine, four-speed gearbox, black-painted frame, suspension, brightwork and cycle parts as all being in ‘excellent’ condition. Triumph’s inaugural 500cc Speed Twin, or 5T, was unveiled at the 1937 National Motorcycle Show. Following a break for the war years, production recommenced in 1947 and continued to 1966. The model is largely credited with putting the company back on its feet following the hostilities. By the time the sale bike was produced, the specification included swinging arm rear suspension and telescopic front forks, and the output of the Edward Turner-designed engine was 28bhp. A rare opportunity.

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.
