March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 2

1993 Mercedes-Benz E200 Elegance
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - L245 LBE

Chassis No. - WDB1240192B983236

M.O.T. - November 2023

Odometer - 84,000

According VDI Trade Check, ‘L245 LBE’ is an imported righthand drive E200 that was first UK registered in December 2003, since when it has had three keepers, the most recent of whom has retained the Benz since 2018. Though his use has been infrequent, he has kept the car regularly maintained, serviced and MOT’d, and has also treated it to a pair of new wings within the last 18 months. He informs us that it is a solid, rot-free example, the four-cylinder petrol engine, blue bodywork and grey leather upholstery of which he presently regards as ‘excellent’ and the automatic transmission and paintwork as ‘good’. He is now offering the car at No Reserve complete with a selection of old MOTs, plus a current one valid to November 12. The total mileage currently stands at around 138,000km (85,750 miles).

Now in its sixth generation, the Mercedes-Benz line-up of executive E Class cars dates back to 1993 and the facelifted version of the long-running W124 model. This was offered until 1995, when it was replaced by the larger, W210 E Class range. Versions of the W124 were available in saloon, coupe, convertible and estate car guise. Petrol engines ranged in size from 2.0 to 5.0-litres and diesel ones from 2.0 to 3.0-litres. When announced, the W124’s drag coefficient of 0.28 was one of the lowest of any car on sale and the range featured many items of advanced technology – eg its single windscreen wiper with eccentric pivot and its exhaust oxygen sensor. Safety was also a key feature of the model, which was designed to withstand an offset crash in to a concrete barrier at 35mph without serious harm to the occupants. Height adjustable seat belts with pre-tensioners were standard up front and a driver’s side airbag a relatively novel option. Front suspension was by MacPherson struts and the rear by Mercedes’ own multi-link system. Braking comprised discs all round, vented at the front.

In summary:

• A righthand drive example imported to the UK in 2003

• Recently service and MOT’d

• Being sold at No Reserve
