November 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 20

1998 Jaguar XK8 Convertible
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - S592 AGR

Chassis No. - SAJJGAFD3AR029127

M.O.T. - September 2023

Odometer - 120,353

This enthusiast-owned four-litre XK8 presents well in the attractive combination of deep metallic blue bodywork, grey hide interior trim and black hood. It rides on period-correct seven-spoke alloy wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero tyres. The Jaguar has had eight previous keepers and represents a reluctant sale for the vendor that results from a family bereavement. He informs us that the convertible ‘drives well and that the hood is in good condition’, and presently grades the V8 engine and automatic transmission as ‘excellent’, and the 2+2 bodywork, paintwork, upholstery and wood veneer facia as ‘good’. The charismatic cat is now being offered complete with wind deflector, tonneau, car cover, pair of keys, large history file of invoices and old MOTs, plus a current one that’s valid into September of next year. Mileage over the last 10 years has been a mere 3,000, bringing the indicated total to 120,353.

The XK8 made its debut at the 1996 Geneva Salon and was immediately available in either coupe or convertible guise. It also had the distinction of being the first Jaguar to be powered by an eight-cylinder engine. At the time of the newcomer’s unveiling, Jaguar Cars was owned by Ford, as was Aston Martin, and it made sound economic sense for the XK8 and similarly targeted DB7 to share the same platform; which itself was derived from that of the outgoing XJS. The biggest of many differences between new and old was the adoption of Jaguar’s second generation independent rear suspension system, previously found on the XJ40 saloon. Prior to 2003, power came from either a normally aspirated (XK8) or supercharged (XKR) 4.0-litre version of the company’s DOHC V8 AJ26 engine.

In summary:

  • An attractively-presented example with eight previous keepers
  • Enthusiast owned and accompanied by a large history file
  • Comes complete with wind deflector, tonneau and car cover
