May 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 22

1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Coupe
Original home market RHD show winning car, has been subject to a no-expense-spared restoration - simply beautiful!

Registration - HTN 46C

Chassis No. - 1E21083

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 82,543

Values of Jaguar’s immortal E-Type wax and wane, but the desirability of the model never wavers, and the best of breed are ever more keenly sought the world over. Therefore, if you’re in the market for a Series I coupe, we politely suggest you take full note of ‘HTN 46C’, as its one of the nicest examples we’ve seen in a good while. Finished in the pleasing combination of Opalescent Dark Green and beige interior trim, it came off line at Browns Lane on November 4, 1965. One of only 1957 righthand drive Series I coupes built, this show-winning Jaguar has remained in its current ownership for the last 15 years, during which time just 877 miles have been added to the previous total of 81,666.

The vendor informs us that ‘as a result of a no expense spared policy, every item has been replaced, renewed or refurbished’. The engine, gearbox and differential have been treated to a nut and bolt rebuild, with all the mechanical work been carried out by Chartist Garage of Hyde, Greater Manchester. All body work was undertaken by former Jaguar technician Jim Mulholland of Portman Motor Company of Manchester, and the car resprayed by a Rover ‘Paint Technician of the Year’. The full leather interior was supplied by BAS International and installed by Hutson Motor Company of Bradford, who also supplied the majority of the mechanical parts. The rechroming was undertaken by a combination of Castle Chrome of Dudley and JHS Plating & Polishing of Birmingham. The braking system has been recently upgraded courtesy of parts from Zeus Engineering of Honiton. Recently serviced, this lovely E-type is now available for purchase complete with two leather-bound volumes of history, photographs as purchased by the vendor and during restoration, and Heritage Certificate. An increasingly rare opportunity.

In summary:

  • Just 81,666 warranted miles from new; just 877 in the last 15 years
  • The subject of a nut and bolt, no expense spared restoration
  • Comes complete with comprehensive history files and Heritage Certificate
