  Lot 22

1976 Land Rover Series III Pickup
The subject of a major restoration complete with overdrive

Registration - MUJ 76P

Chassis No. - 90613210A

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 1,389

Some people like their Land Rovers to be battle-scarred – ie offer visual proof of the vehicle’s legendary go-anywhere capability. If that’s your choice, then ‘MUJ 76P’ is probably not the Landie for you, as its condition inside and out reflects the many thousands of pounds the vendor informs us have been lavished upon it over the years. The subject of a major restoration, its straight, virtually unmarked bronze green bodywork is matched to an equally tidy interior trimmed in black vinyl. Recent work has included a respray, new floor and rails for the load area and a fresh speedometer head. The pickup’s comprehensive specification includes: Fairey overdrive and free-wheeling hubs, full tow pack, canvas tilt, tonneau cover, snorkel, headlining, door cards, central seat, seat belts, Land Rover sound-deadening carpet mats, sun visor, Bluetooth remote control radio system, light covers, new spare wheel and a suitably macho rear-mounted jack. The vendor presently grades the 2.5-litre petrol engine, transmission, bodywork and paintwork as ‘excellent’ and the interior as ‘good’, and considers the truck to be ‘reliable and one of the nicest of its type’. He is now offering the vehicle complete with an extensive history file containing receipts, bills for servicing and a selection of old MOTs dating back to 1993. As he points out, this is ‘quite a fancy’ Series III, whose existing cab could be readily swapped for a canvas or hard top if required’.

The ubiquitous Land Rover steadily progressed from a single offering to a family of long and short wheelbase derivatives with an ever increasing choice of engines. The Series III of 1971-1985 is the most common, of which 440,000 were produced.

In summary:

  • The subject of a major restoration
  • A well-equipped example complete with overdrive, full tow pack, central seat, snorkel etc
  • Comes complete with a good history file
