The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 22

1977 Norton Commando MK3

Registration - LFM 288N

Chassis No. - 330354

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - TBC

This fine-looking ‘electric start’ Commando was added to the enthusiast vendor’s large bike collection last year, but has since seen little use due to his wide choice of transport. It has, however, been dry stored, well maintained and regularly started. It has also benefited from being equipped with a ‘very expensive’ Brembo front brake set-up and replacement chain, and having the tank resprayed in its original black livery. The vendor now regards the twin-cylinder 828cc engine, four-speed gearbox, frame, suspension, paintwork and cycle parts as all being in ‘excellent’ condition, and the brightwork and electrics as ‘good’. The odometer currently registers a total mileage of 25,516. The Norton-Villiers Commando was in production from 1967 to 1977. It was initially powered by an OHV parallel twin-cylinder engine of 745cc, but this was increased to 828cc from 1973 onwards. Popular the world over, the model was awarded ‘Machine of the Year’ for five successive years by Motorcycle News, and some 60,000 examples were produced all told. The MK3 version introduced in 1975 was arguably the most reliable of all, and featured electric start, isolastic head steady, leftside gearchange and rear disc brake.

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'
