‘Y672 RFM’ was first UK-registered in March 2003, just two years after vacating the Mitsubishi factory in Japan. It is finished in an eye-catching shade of yellow, trimmed in a mix of black and blue fabric, and rides on black-painted alloy wheels shod with quality Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. Under-bonnet tweaks include a full Cobra stainless steel exhaust system, APEXI induction kit, HKS dump valve and uprated fuel pump, while inside you will spot an A pillar-mounted boost gauge and Greddy Profec boost control unit. The vendor informs us that during his tenure the suspension has been refurbished, the brake discs and pads renewed, and yellow braided hoses installed, while a service was carried out as recently as July this year. Prior to his purchase in November 12 months ago the Evo had remained in the same ownership for 17 years. He presently regards the five-speed manual transmission as being in ‘excellent’ order, and the four-door bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. He is now selling the Mitsubishi complete with Pioneer sound system, the original spacesaver wheel/tyre and tools, Ralliart over-mats, a Japanese handbook, large collection of receipts for work done (including the replacement of the cambelt) and some old MOTs, plus a current one valid into September next year.
The Evolution series of Mitsubishi Lancers was in production from 1992 to 2016, during which no less than 10 generations were created. The model achieved rallying immortality thanks to ‘flying Finn’ Tommi Mäkinen, who drove Evos to victory in no less than four consecutive World Rallying Championships, the last of which was achieved aboard an Evo VI. The ensuing Evo VII reigned from 2001 to 2003. It was based on the slightly heavier Lancer Cedia platform but benefited from a number of chassis upgrades, including the addition of an active center differential and more effective limited slip rear one. The 2-litre turbocharged engine of the standard version produced 276bhp and 282 lb ft of torque – sufficient for a 0-60mph time of c.4.8 seconds and terminal speed of 140mph.
