The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 23

1954 Norton Dominator 88 500cc

Registration - RRH 705

Chassis No. - K12259247

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 33,908

This tidy-looking Dominator is finished in gunmetal grey that’s matched to a black seat. According to VDI check, the Norton has had just three keepers to date, the most recent of whom acquired the bike in May 2008. He informs us that it was treated to fresh fuel, a carburettor service and brake overhaul as recently as this March, and now considers the suspension and brightwork to be in ‘excellent’ condition, the four-speed gearbox, frame and cycle parts to be ‘good’, and the twin-cylinder engine and paintwork to be in ‘average’ order. The odometer currently stands at 33,908 miles. The Dominator 88 was in production from 1952 to 1966, and is memorable for being equipped with the Rex Candless-penned ‘featherbed’ frame that influenced motorcycle design for years to follow. The model was powered by the Bert Hopwood vertical twin-cylinder engine of 500cc first used in the preceding Model 7.
