  Lot 23

1998 BMW M3 Evolution Convertible
Only 50,000 miles from new, complete with hard top

Registration - R377 PHG

Chassis No. - WBSBK92000EX66102

M.O.T. - March 2023

Odometer - 50,000

Among this year’s many automotive anniversaries is that of BMW’s M division, the supreme products of which have now been exciting enthusiast drivers for 50 years. The example offered here is an E36 M3 Evolution convertible. Very smartly presented in the popular colour of Estoril Blue and trimmed in contrasting grey leather, it has had only three owners to date who’ve apparently amassed no more than 54,000 miles between them. The current keeper acquired the BMW in June 2016, since when it has been garaged, regularly serviced, and MOT’d every year by the North Wales BMW specialists Ash Motors. It was recently professionally detailed, and within the last month the interior leather, including seats and door cards, has been completely professionally retrimmed, as has the headling. We understand from the vendor that the car ‘always starts and runs beautifully’ and he has no hesitation in grading its Evo engine and six-speed manual gearbox as ‘excellent’. He is now selling the car complete with soft and hard tops (both in ‘good’ condition), and big history file that includes a full service record, original owner’s manual, an array of invoices, and a full set of old MOTs as well as a current one valid to March 2 next year. We understand the M3 will also be treated to a pair of new front tyres prior to the sale. It should be noted that ‘R377 PHG’ is on record as having been stolen-recovered in 2000, but there is absolutely nothing to suggest it suffered any adverse effects from the experience.

The E36 generation M3 reigned from 1992 to 1999. The desirable Evolution variant launched at the 1995 Frankfurt Salon featured a larger 3.2-litre engine of advanced specification that was coupled to a six-speed Getrag gearbox.

In summary:

  • Just three owners and 54,000 miles from new
  • Comes complete with both hard and soft tops
  • Large file contains full service history, all old MOTs and a current one
