The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 24

1990 Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth
Only 46,000 miles, backed up by accompanying MOTs

Registration - G600 YJN

Chassis No. - WFOFXXGBBFJT94450

M.O.T. - March 2023

Odometer - 46,918

Fast Fords have a habit of falling into one of two categories – thrashed and quite probably crashed, or treasured and pampered. ‘G600 YJN’ is self-evidently from the latter camp and therefore increasingly desirable in the current market. Finished in the classic Cossie colour of Moonstone Blue and trimmed in grey cloth, it is said by the vendor to have started life as a demonstrator before being registered to two successive members of the same family and then dry-stored from 2004 to 2018, which is when he acquired the RS. We are informed that it’s waxed underneath and free of welds, rust and dents. On entering the current ownership it was serviced and treated to a new cam belt, brake calipers and pads and Bosch fuel pump. The pleasingly modest mileage is apparently supported by accompanying MOT certificates. The vendor views the Ford’s turbo engine, five-speed manual transmission, four-door bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ order and feels one would have to ‘travel a very long way to find another example in such fine, original condition’. He is now offering the car complete with the factory-supplied owner’s manual and service book, plus a large selection of receipts relating to services prior to the period of storage. Also present are every MOT certificate from 1993 to 2004, plus a current one valid until March 21 next year. If you’re in the market for as Fast Ford, as an increasing number of enthusiasts are, then this Sapphire is surely worth a good look.

The Sapphires were the most numerous and lightest of all the Sierra Cosworth derivatives, some 13,140 examples of which were produced between 1988 and 1990.

In summary:

  • An apparently very original car in fine order throughout
  • Was recommissioned following 14 years of storage
  • Low indicated mileage backed by MOT records
