February 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 24

2000 Jaguar XJ8 3.2

Registration - X199 MTS

Chassis No. - SAJAC13L1KF27482

M.O.T. - February 2023

Odometer - 80,100

‘X199 MTS’ appears to have led something of a cossetted life. Currently registering a total mileage of 80,100, it has apparently had just four keepers from new, three of whom are members of the same family. Serviced by a Jaguar main dealer and then a marque specialist, it is being sold complete with a fully-stamped service book, its original owner’s CD, and all past MOTs. Moreover, we understand the car will be treated to both a service and fresh MOT immediately prior to the sale. The vendor views the car as having been ‘well looked after’ and informs us it has been ‘garaged throughout its life and is in mint condition inside and out’. He therefore has no hesitation in classing the V8 engine, automatic transmission, bodywork, paintwork and luxurious upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ order. Finished in a suitably stately shade of dark green and trimmed in tan hide, the Jaguar retains its factory-fitted radio/CD audio system which, along with all other electrical components, is said to be in full working order.

Recognising that the boxy lines of the XJ40 could do with a facelift, Jaguar allowed designer Geoff Lawson to adopt a somewhat retro path for the X300 Series XJ6. This line was revised for the last time in 1997, at which point new, much-praised, Bridgend-built V8 engines replaced the previous six-cylinder ones – enter the XJ (X308). The normally aspirated versions of the new units were available in 3.2 and 4.0-litre form. Most other aspects of Jaguar’s handsome flagship were also an improvement on those of its predecessor – the silky-smooth ride in particular winning many plaudits.

In summary:

  • Just four keepers, three of which were from the same family
  • Apparently well maintained and garaged from new
  • Presented in fine original order inside and out
