  Lot 25

1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Limousine

Registration - AVW 425

Chassis No. - GXB24

M.O.T. - July 2021

Odometer - 38,886

This suitably regal-looking Royce was first owned by a Mrs Ida Szlumper of Bickley, Kent, the county in which it remained until sold in 1938 to Percy Taylor of the Western Avenue Hotel, Acton, who retained it for the next 26 years. It then became the property an M Y Cartwright of Keswick before traversing the Atlantic to Texas in 1987, where it remained until 1991. It was in 2005 that Brian Slattery acquired the 20/25 in Nottingham and embarked upon an extensive refurbishment programme that included a bare metal wings-off repair and respray at Chic Doig’s premises in Cardenden, a specialist retrim, and a rewire and other restorative tasks courtesy of Milford Vintage Engineering of Kirkmichael.

The limousine is finished in cream and black and trimmed in cream leather aft of the division and black hide on the driver’s side. The history file confirms that the engine was totally rebuilt in 1961, at which time the odometer stood at 71,432. Having worn the registration ‘JSU 985’ since its repatriation it was reunited with its original number, ‘AVW 425’, in 2010. Three years later the current keeper replaced the clutch and had the radiator refurbished. He presently regards the paintwork and upholstery to be in ‘excellent’ order and the 3750cc engine and four-speed manual gearbox as ‘good’, and confirms that the Royce has happily journeyed to France, Spain, Ireland, The Isle of Man, Northumberland and Wales and ‘travels really well’. This splendid motorcar is now being offered complete with a capacious leather-clad trunk, wing mirrors and a set of modern indicators, plus an MOT valid to July 12 this year.

In summary:

  • A genuine limousine with partition and 7/8 seat configuration
  • Excellent history and maintenance record
  • One of only 3,827 20/25s produced
