Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction
1950 Sunbeam S8
This classic Sunbeam is presented in apparently ‘excellent condition’ with a degree of custom styling that includes alloy valance wheel rims, aluminium mudguards, chrome S7 silencer and a larger than standard Amal monobloc carburettor with bell mouth. The motorcycle features black frame and tank and a black single-seat saddle. An interesting and attractive take on the product of a famous post-war British marque that comes complete with V5C.
Manufactured in Redditch, the Sunbeam S7 and S8 models were designed by Erling Poppe and featured longitudinally mounted OHC 500cc four-stroke parallel twins of 24bhp, and shaft drive. The S8 was marketed as the sportier of the two models, with a claimed top speed of 85mph. Some 8,530 were produced between 1949 and 1956.
