1961 Morris Minor 1000 Convertible

Registration - 545 YUH

Chassis No. - MAT386240

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 74,389

By now many unsuspecting Morris Minor saloons have had their steel roofs removed in order to create aftermarket convertibles of varying quality. ‘545 YUH’ is the real deal, however – a 1961 factory-built home market example that’s finished in the classic combination of Old English White bodywork paired with red leather upholstery. It has had just four owners from new, who have amassed a relatively modest 74,389 miles between them. The Morris has evidently been the subject of a good deal of maintenance in recent years – eg a replacement clutch was installed in 2018, while 12 months later it was treated to new n/s and o/s floor panels and attention paid to both front and rear brakes. The upholstery is original, complete with related patina, but both the hood and carpet have been replaced relatively recently. The vendor volunteers that the car is ‘a reliable starter’ but that there is some ‘minor (no pun intended!) bubbling of the paintwork’ at the bottom of the two doors. In deference to modern traffic, the car is nowadays equipped with flashing indicators (the original semaphore arms are still in place) and a pair of chrome wing mirrors. In summary, a very tidy original-looking example of a much loved British classic that’s ready to provide miles of fun motoring for its next keeper.

The Morris Minor is almost as universal a symbol of England as the London bus and the red telephone box and, with over 1.3 million manufactured in its 23-year reign, is one of the most successful cars of all time. Designed by Alec Issigonis (who later penned the ubiquitous Mini), the Minor was unveiled at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show and 13 years later became the first British car to achieve a million sales.

  • Genuine factory-built, home market example
  • Just four owners from new
