Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

  Lot 26

1971 Seeley-Matchless G50 MK2
Formerly Raced By Smith Racing to many success

This exciting motorcycle that the vendor describes as being in ‘exceptional condition’ was formerly raced to many successes by Smith Racing. Recently recommissioned, it has seen little use since, and none in 2020/2021. Ideal to race or parade, its impressive specification includes: Mk2 Seeley frame built by Roger Titchmarsh; Fred Walmsley Matchless G50 498cc engine featuring titanium con rods and valves; twin spark ignition cylinder head; magnesium crank cases; Mikuni 38mm carburettor; Scitsu rev-counter; PVL electronic ignition; Newby belt drive and clutch; six-speed TTI gearbox; Fontana twin-leading front hub with new brakes; Seeley forks modified to give adjustable rebound and damping; Ohlins steering damper; Manx rear hub with new brakes; Maxton rear dampers; new chain and rear sprocket; new petrol and oil tanks; new tyres; fresh oil throughout. Superbly presented, the Seeley is now being sold complete with CRMC certificate and invoices from John Cronshaw, Molnar Precision Ltd etc. Ready to race subject to the normal pre-event checks. Potentially amazing value considering a build of this standard could easily cost upwards of £30,000.

The late Colin Seeley was a significant figure in British motorcycle racing and an innovative motorcycle designer whose frames brought success to riders of all levels. For that reason, Seeley-inspired machines continue to spark interest whenever they come to market.

In summary:

  • An example with successful history
  • Little used since being recommissioned
  • Valued at a fraction of the cost of an equivalent new build

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.

Estimated at £16,500 - £17,500
