February 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 26

2005 Maserati GranSport

Registration - BE03 ESE

Chassis No. - ZAMEC38C000016853

M.O.T. - November 2022

Odometer - 57,000

The Nero Carbonio (black) bodywork of this handsome Maserati is matched to black hide/technical cloth interior trim and dark grey-coloured 19 inch Trofeo alloy wheels complete with trident-shaped spokes. The car currently registers an unwarranted but highly credible 57,000 miles from new, and has apparently been maintained for the last 12 years by Mario of Autoshield Maserati in Manchester. It has recently benefited from the replacement of both the clutch and four tyres, and the vendor has no hesitation in regarding the V8 engine, automatic transmission, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ order and considers the Ferrari-engineered GranSport to be ‘pristine throughout’. He is now offering this righthand drive Maserati complete with the cherished registration (‘BE03 ESE’, that reads BE OBESE), alarm system, tyre inflator, factory book pack and wallet, service history and a current MOT that’s valid into November this year. A rare opportunity.

The GranSport was a sportier version of the 4200 GT coupe first seen at the Geneva Salon in 2004. It featured: a more potent 395bhp variant of the V8 engine courtesy of improved intake manifolds, valve seats, and exhaust system complete with ‘growl’ facility; six-speed Cambiocorsa paddle shift transmission recalibrated for quicker changes; Skyhook active suspension; more stylish, aerodynamic bodywork (the drag coefficient was lowered from 0.35 to 0.33); and a more luxurious interior featuring highly-contoured sports seats. Rapid by any standards, the GranSport could achieve the 0-60mph sprint in some 4.8 seconds and accelerate on to a top speed of over 180mph. Just 2,640 coupes and 473 spyder versions of the GranSport were produced between 2004 and 2007.

In summary:

  • Currently registering just 57,000 miles from new
  • Recently benefited from four new tyres and a new clutch
  • An apparently very tidy example of a relatively rare model
