The Bolesworth Castle November 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 27

1993 Mazda RX7 FD Efini
UK registered since 2003 and the subject of a major restoration and upgrade programme

Registration - K740 CNE

Chasssis No - FD35-108054

M.O.T. - May 2024

Odometer - 94,500

Only 210 FD model RX7s were officially imported to the UK but, no doubt encouraged by the model’s starring role in the hit movie franchise Fast & Furious, fans have subsequently imported a number of JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) versions, of which ‘K740 CNE’ is one. Make no mistake though, this is no run-of-the-mill example, but the pride and joy of the vendor who’s spent several years and a great deal of money restoring and customising it. The body was taken back to bare metal and widened courtesy of Chargespeed-style rear arches and custom-louvred Feed-style front ones. Other cosmetic upgrades include Feed-style bonnet vents, Ganador-style electric mirrors, Feed-style ducktail spoiler, Feed-style side steps, RE-Amemiya-style rear diffuser, and 1999 specification RX7 front bumper. Once customised, the body was resprayed in Ford metallic Panther Black. The engine was rebuilt with a large street port five years ago by Rotary Revs and has only covered around 3,000 miles since. The following have subsequently been added: 1999 specification twin turbos, Walbro 255 fuel pump, 2.2kw starter motor, Apexi Power FC, Koyo radiator, CX Racing intercooler, Apexi air intakes, Revolution downpipe and a straight through exhaust leading to a Kakimoto tail pipe. Following tuning, the revised engine is apparently producing c.324bhp. Other mods to the Mazda include: Cusco suspension coilovers, custom Morimoto HID headlights, Glow LED side/indicator units, custom Illumaesthetic taillights, Speedhut instruments, a Carplay/Android Pioneer stereo unit, and sound deadening. Phew! This exciting machine is now available for a new keeper to cherish and enjoy and comes complete with a large selection of invoices, receipts relating to the work carried out, plus a current MOT valid into May next year.

The third (FD) and final incarnation of the RX7 was launched in 1992. It featured an updated body design of softer lines, but the key point of note was its engine’s sequential twin-turbocharger system that was developed in conjunction with Hitachi. This raised the output of the twin rotor powerplant to a very respectable 255bhp.

In summary:

  • A 1993 FD imported to the UK in 2003
  • The subject of a major restoration and upgrade programme
  • Comes complete with lots of supporting paperwork and current MOT
