November 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 27

Lot 27 - 2007 Jaguar S-Type R

2007 Jaguar S-Type R

Registration - BG07 BHY

Chassis No. - SAJAC03R981N83634

M.O.T. - July 2023

Odometer - 92,926

Perennially under-rated, the R version of Jaguar’s S-Type saloon is only now being credited with the respect it arguably always deserved, and good ones are eagerly sought by those in the know. This handsome example features metallic grey bodywork teamed with black hide interior trim and rides on the optional 19-inch BBS alloy wheels shod Pirelli Zero Nero tyres. Experian Autocheck shows the car to have had seven keepers to date, the most recent of whom acquired it two years ago. He presently classes the supercharged V8 engine, automatic transmission, four-door saloon bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as all being in ‘excellent’ order, and is now making the S-Type available complete with full-service history plus a current MOT valid into July of next year.

The S-Type Jaguar unveiled at the 1998 Birmingham Motorshow had strong echoes of the company’s glorious past. Not only did it share the name of one of the company’s popular ‘60s saloons, but the Geoff Lawson styling was heavily influenced by an array of iconic Jaguar models from the same era. Even the newcomer’s factory was steeped in history – the Castle Bromwich plant having produced countless Spitfires and Lancasters during WWII. The most potent version produced was the S-Type R, which joined the line-up in 2002. Intended to compete with the like of BMW’s M5 and the Mercedes E55 AMG, it was powered by a hand-built version of the company’s 4.2-ltre powerplant complete with Eaton Supercharger. The resulting 400bhp was sufficient to give the executive express a

0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds and electronically-limited 155mph top speed. The model was distinguished from its junior siblings by 18-inch alloy wheels, wire-mesh grille, deeper front and rear aprons, rear spoiler and R badging.

In summary:

• A very original and tidy-looking example inside and out

• Seven keepers and 92,926 miles from new

• Comes complete with full service history
