1991 Lotus Espirit Turbo SE

Registration - H654 EFL

Chassis No. - SCC082910MHA60330

M.O.T. - October 2021

Odometer - 49,500

To many eyes, the Peter Stevens-penned Esprit produced between 1988 and 1994 looks as good today as at the time of its launch, and good examples are keenly sought by enthusiasts of the marque. The SE version offered here has Calypso Red bodywork complemented by a tan leather interior and the benefit of both a factory-fitted full-width Targa-style sunroof and Larini stainless steel sports exhaust system. Prior to the vendor’s purchase in 2016, the Esprit had spent 10 years in the warm salt-free environment of Cyprus, where it was tended to by the local Lotus dealer and then a Bentley trained mechanic. During its Mediterranean sojourn it was always serviced using genuine Lotus parts shipped out from the UK, and also benefited from a full respray in its original colour. Since being repatriated, ‘H654 EFL’ has been maintained by a well-known Newmarket-based Lotus specialist where it was last seen as recently as May this year for a full ‘C’ service, during which the cam and all ancillary belts were changed.

The vendor presently regards the fibreglass bodywork, paintwork, turbo engine and five-speed manual gearbox as all being in ‘excellent’ order and the leather interior trim as ‘good’. The Lotus has covered a relatively low 49,500 fully documented miles from new, and is now offered complete with wind deflector, original tool kit, plus a spare bumper finished in Calypso Red. It also comes with a comprehensive file covering the full 30 years of its life, which includes owner’s handbook, fully stamped service history, Lotus service manual, and receipts for the work carried on behalf of all five owners. In summary, the vendor says ‘this is a fine example of the fuel injected, charge-cooled Esprit SE that with 265bhp and a

0-60mph time of 4.7 seconds is faster than a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8’.
