The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 28

2004 Maserati Quattroporte

Registration - CN54 RFZ

Chassis No. - ZAMCD39C000016967

M.O.T. - December 2022

Odometer - 85,360

It’s amazing how when translated into Italian the prosaic title of ‘four-doors’ sounds positively exotic. But it’s fitting in the case of Maserati’s big saloon, as the graceful lines penned by Pietro Frua combine with a Ferrari V8 engine and sea of sumptuous leather to produce a passenger car of unique and endearing qualities. The example offered came off line in 2004 and was first UK registered in January the following year. It is finished in the attractive combination of Blu Malago bodywork and beige hide upholstery, and is considered by the vendor to have ‘excellent’ V8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, ‘good’ bodywork and interior trim, and ‘average’ paintwork’. Its currently indicated total mileage of 85,361 is more than warranted by the car’s complete service history, with either main dealer or independent specialist’s stamps at 6,000, 18,500, 31,000, 43,500, 49,000, 56,000, 62,000, 68,500, 74,000 and 83,000 miles.

Apparently within the last 15,000 miles alone over £1,200 has been invested in: new springs; hubs; brake discs, pads and cables; suspension bushes; the repair and protection of the subframes; a full Dinitrol rust protection package; upgraded air filter; ECUs; crankshaft sensor; undertrays etc. The alloy wheels were refurbished as little as 1,000 miles ago and shod with new Kumho PS91 high-performance tyres. The vendor informs us that he has used ‘CN54 RFZ’ every day for the last six months and it has never let him down and performed ‘exactly as it should’. He is now offering the Maserati for sale complete with: blinds for all rear windows; five-track CD player; full owner’s book pack, key and radio cards etc still retained within the original leather wallet; a large selection of receipts for work done; plus a number of old MOTs and a current one valid to December 12. A lot of car for the money in today’s market.

In summary:

  • An apparently very original, well-maintained example
  • Full service history supports the indicated mileage of 85,361
  • £12,000 invested in maintenance in the last 15,000 miles

'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following;  Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'

Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Estimated at £6,000 - £8,000
