Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

  Lot 30

1995 Volvo 850 GLT Estate
*** NO RESERVE ***

Chassis No. - YVILW412252135634

Registration No. - M842 PKO

M.O.T. - July 2021

Odometer – 90,231

Most Volvo estate owners cannot imagine life without them. As the vendor of ‘M842 PKO’ says, they are ‘commodious and spacious and will run all day’. This particular example was registered new on March 8, 1995 and handed over to the first of its four keepers a few days later. The third one, a Doctor Morgan, acquired the car from Baytrack Volvo in Cardiff during September 1998 and retained the GLT for the next 22 years. The accompanying history file shows it was main-dealer serviced until November 1997 and periodically thereafter, though most of the maintenance seems to have been entrusted to G & J Motors of the Roath district of Cardiff. The file also contains 10 old MOT certificates, plus a current one valid until July 16 this year. The car’s vivid red exterior is contrasted by black interior trim. Its 2.0-litre engine drives through a five-speed manual gearbox and the odometer currently registers a total mileage to date of 90,231. The vendor regards the Volvo as being in ‘tip-top condition inside an out (….given it’s been around since Blackburn won the Premiership and Everton beat Manchester United for the FA Cup!), and drives like it should’. It rides on alloy wheels and comes complete with a full-size spare one, plus a spare key with fob.

Volvo’s 850 saloons and estates were produced from 1991 to 1996, when the range morphed into the S70 and V70 respectively. The launch slogan was ‘A dynamic car with four unique innovations’, which related to the transverse five-cylinder engine, Delta-link rear axle, Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) and self-adjusting seat belts. The GLT acronym stood for Grand Luxe Touring.

In summary:

  • An apparently clean, tidy, well-maintained example
  • Just four owners and 90,231 miles from new
  • Being sold Without Reserve
