The Bolesworth Castle November 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 31

2009 Ford Focus RS
An unrepeatable opportunity to purchase a sub-1000 mile Mk2 Focus RS

Registration - LHZ 9393

Chassis No. - WF09GXXGCD99B47231

M.O.T. - N/A

Odometer - 962

Calling all fast Ford collectors! Here we have a two-owner MK2 Focus RS whose odometer indicates a total mileage of just 962, and whose door sills still feature their factory-applied plastic protective film. Moreover, records suggest that the car has never had an MOT which, together with its almost as-new overall condition, appears to confirm ‘LHZ 9393’ really is an ultra-low mileage specimen. The explanation is that the Focus has apparently spent the vast majority of its 14 years in a pair of private collections – first in Scotland and then in Ireland. Its Frozen White paintwork elegantly showcases the muscular RS bodykit, with its bonnet vents, 19” alloy wheels, black mesh grille, WRC-style roof spoiler and RS-badged wing vents. Inside, aluminium pedals and gear knob, three-spoke RS steering wheel and black Recaro seats with blue stitching are further reminders that this three-door, four-seater is a sizzling-hot hatchback, while the Sony DAB radio/six-CD changer appears perfectly primed to belt out appropriate hits from the late noughties. Below the bonnet, the 2522cc, five-cylinder DOHC Duratec turbocharged engine appears unused, and it’s no surprise that the vendor describes it and the six-speed manual transmission, interior trim and bodywork as all being in ‘excellent’ order. This extraordinary RS is now being sold complete with book pack, service book and three sets of keys.

Ford unveiled the road-going version of its World Rally Championship Focus RS at the 2000 Birmingham International Motor Show, revealing the full production model at Geneva the following year. Some 70 percent of the standard Focus had either been replaced or reworked, and the aggressive styling hinted at what lay under the bonnet - a two-litre Duratec DOHC four-cylinder turbocharged engine developing 212bhp at 5500rpm. Sachs dampers, Brembo brakes and bespoke 18” OZ Racing light-alloy wheels added to the performance and handling qualities. The Mk2 Focus RS went on sale in May 2009. It was a leap forward in styling and performance terms, and orders flooded in until production ended in September 2010. With that 2.5-litre engine, six-speed manual gearbox, RevoKnuckle front suspension and Quaife automatic torque biasing limited-slip differential, the 300bhp machine had blistering performance, including a 0-60mph time of just 5.7 seconds.

In summary:

  • An outstanding example of Ford’s highly desirable MK2 Focus RS
  • Formerly displayed in two private collections
  • The condition appears to support the indicated mileage of just 962
