The innovative Mazda RX-8 is enduring icon of the 2000’s JDM scene. ‘PJ06 JVX’ is an example hailing from 2006 and in UK special edition “Evolve” specification. With around 110,000 miles covered to date ‘PJ06 JVX’ benefits from a good service history and reportedly underwent an engine rebuild in 2015. A few well chosen modifications have been made including racing suspension, a de-cat exhaust and an air pump delete. With a recent service noted ‘PJ06 JVX’ is offered here with no reserve making immediate enjoyment possible.

The “Evolve,” UK only special edition was limited to 500 cars only and was easily identified by two specific liveries. ‘PJ06 JVX’ sports the Copper Red Mica colourway which is unusual in itself. A deep front chin spoiler is fitted, and the signature rear “suicide” doors remain a captivating feature of the RX-8 presenting a big, pillarless aperture when all doors are open. This feature also aids easy access to the leather clad cabin. The RX-8 offers practical four-seater GT car packaging with surprisingly spacious rear seats. The high backed front sports seats are heated in this example. The condition of ‘PJ06 JVX’ is rated as “good” for bodywork and interior and “average” for paintwork.

A key mechanical differentiator for the RX-8 was the Renesis 13B rotary engine. With a nominal capacity of just 1300cc, the rotary engine was originally rated at 238 bhp in this application. In ‘PJ06 JVX’ this is mated to a six speed manual transmission. Its packaging was innovative, too. The engine sits back behind the front axle whilst the fuel tank sits ahead of the rear axle resulting in a near 50:50 weight distribution and a low moment of inertia. ‘PJ06 JVX’ further benefits from a racing suspension set up, rear Brembo brake pads and an engine rebuild dating from 2015. The vendor rates the transmission as “excellent,” the electric as “good,” and the electrics as “average.”

In summary:

· A nice looking example of this highly innovative four seater, four door coupe

· Plenty of well-chosen upgrades and a good record of mechanical attention
