You know a motorcar means business when what first greets you on looking through its leather-rimmed multi-functional steering wheel is a bright yellow rev-counter red-lined from 8,200 to 10,000rpm. The heavily-sculptured seats are trimmed in top-quality Cognac Tan-coloured hide, which contrasts perfectly with the Grigio (grey) paintwork, while the apparently pristine five-spoke alloy wheels are shod in quality Pirelli P Zero tyres. The suitably-registered (‘FF12 TEC’) Ferrari has remained in the care of its sixth keeper since November last year. The owners have collectively enjoyed a total of 40,640 miles, a modest distance that’s fully supported by the car’s service history of 10 stamps (3 x Maranello, 5 x H.R. Owen and one each by specialists Copthorne Classics and SMDG Performance). This lovely Prancing Horse is now being offered complete with its original toolkit and a current MOT certificate that’s valid to May 26 next year.
The name FF stands for ‘Ferrari Four’ – as in four seats and four-wheel drive. The distinctive model made its debut at the 2011 Geneva Salon and was a replacement for what had been the Prancing Horse’s first four-wheel drive grand tourer, the 612 Scaglietti. A departure from the wedge shape of most modern Ferraris, the newcomer was more in the guise of a two-door sporting estate, the styling of which was carried out in-house under the direction of former Pininfarina design director Lowie Vermeersch. At launch the FF was powered by the largest road-going engine the company had built – a normally-aspirated unit of no less than 6262cc, the output of which was quoted as 650bhp at 8,000rpm and a whopping 504 lb ft of torque at 6,000rpm. The powerplant drove through basically the same dual clutch paddle shift system as found in the California, 458 Italia and F12 Berlinetta. The performance of the FF lived up to expectations with a 0-60mph time of around 3.5 seconds and top speed nudging 210mph. Some 2,291 examples of the model had been produced by the time it was replaced by the GTC4 Lusso in 2016.
