November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 33

1961 NSU Quickly
Meticulously restored with great attention to detail.

Registration - 93 VPL

Chassis No. - 950244

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 05528.6

It is no surprise that this smartly-presented ‘60s moped has been fully restored. It was apparently treated to a bare metal respray before being equipped with new wiring and cables, stainless steel wheel spokes, tyres and inner tubes. Its features a black seat on a cream frame and the odometer presently indicates an unwarranted but credible total mileage travelled from new of 5,528. Included in the sale are the moped’s original buff log book, an old MOT certificate dating back to 1971, and an official NSU parts list.

The quickly moped built by NSU Motorenwerke AG of Germany from 1953 to 1968 is generally regarded as the Rolls-Royce of 49cc transport. Its pressed steel frame supported leading link front suspension (there was no springing at the rear), and was powered by an air-cooled two-stroke motor that drove the rear wheel via a two-speed transmission and chain. It also featured a bicycle pedal assembly which was used to start the engine and assist progress when the going got tough. A success by any standards, the Quickly racked up in excess of a million sales over its 16-year reign.

In summary:

  • The subject of a bare metal restoration
  • Comes complete with a number of new parts
  • Original buff log book included in the sale
