The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 33

1973 Triumph TR6
A simply exceptional example. Recent restoration to a show standard, complete with original bill of sale

Registration - UML 460M

Chassis No. - CG6440

M.O.T. - July 2023

Odometer - 4,447

Resplendent in the very attractive combination of Sapphire Blue paintwork and Beige leather interior trim, this most handsome of TR6s has self-evidently been the subject of a comprehensive restoration. The vendor informs us that this included: a bare metal repaint; engine rebuild; replacement of the overdrive gearbox, upholstery and carpets; and the installation of a new mohair hood and stainless steel exhaust system complete with twin tail pipes. Undersealed at the time of delivery to its first keeper, the Triumph has also benefited from a recent Waxoyling. The vendor now has no hesitation in describing the straight-six engine, overdrive manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and interior trim as all being in ‘excellent’ order, and is now offering this lovely four-owner Triumph complete with alloy rocker cover, chrome wire wheels, radio cassette, the original bill of sale, and a current MOT valid into July of next year. Summer wheels don’t come much smarter.

The Triumph TR2 was launched in 1953, and so began a series of successful two-seater sports cars that ended in 1981 with the last of the TR8s. The evolution was steady but continuous and, in the same way that the early cars all evolved from their predecessors, the TR6 that first saw the light of day in late 1968 was effectively a cleverly updated TR5. For the body revisions Triumph naturally turned to the Italian who had styled the TR4/TR5 – Michelotti. However, he could not meet their schedule and the squaring off of the nose and tail were eventually achieved by the German designers at Karmann. The car’s underpinnings were broadly as per the TR5. A total of 94,619 examples were produced, a mere 8,370 of which were sold on the home market.

In summary:

  • Immaculately presented in Sapphire Blue and trimmed beige leather
  • The subject of a full nut and bolt restoration
  • Just four keepers from new
