May 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 33

1998 Peugeot 106 Rallye S2
Has recently benefitted from a full nut and bolt restoration - a fantastic addition to any collection

Registration - R567 TVN

Chassis No. - VF31CNFWE52121886

M.O.T. - March 2023

Odometer - TBC

This handsome French pocket rocket was supplied new to its first keeper in March 1998 by Peugeot dealer Simon Bailes Ltd of North Yorkshire. The fact that it has had 11 further owners and accumulated a total of 137,420 miles is somewhat irrelevant, as the car has recently emerged from ‘a full bare metal nut and bolt restoration using only the best products’. The bodyshell was refurbished on a spit and refinished in Bianca White Max Meyer 2K paint. The underside was sandblasted, epoxy primed and given a layer of Raptor underbody coating, while the cavities were waxed for long term protection. All the brackets and suspension parts were powder coated and the fasteners re-plated or replaced.

A low mileage replacement engine was sourced, all the aluminium components from which were vapour blasted and the cylinder head rebuilt. The cam belt and tensioners; water pump; engine mounts; exhaust system and heat shield; filters; sparking plugs and leads; intake and MAP sensors were all renewed; as were the drive shafts, gear linkages and clutch and clutch cable. The rear axle was fully refurbished and the braking system completely overhauled with new Mintex discs and pads, rebuilt calipers and fresh lines and handbrake cables. The suspension system was treated to new arms and links and a set of Bilstein dampers. Other freshly installed items include: a set of Kumho tyres and a Yuasa battery, while the specialist Rallye parts such as the gear ratios, air intake pipework, battery cover etc are all present and correct. Last but not least, since being photographed the Pug has had its rear ride height restored to the correct level. ‘R567 TVN’ is now offered complete with a comprehensive file of receipts, photos of the rebuild, service history, past MOT certificates and one valid until March 24 next year. A rare opportunity.

In summary:

  • Fresh from a fully recorded, bare metal nut and bolt rebuild
  • An incredibly smart example that’s now waiting to be enjoyed
  • Rare specification includes power steering and an air bag
