Since the launch of the first Golf GTi 46 years ago, (yes it really has been that long!), it has been the hot hatch by which all such cars are judged. The example on offer is from the fifth generation of the model, the GTi version of which was powered by a turbocharged form of the company’s well proven 2.0-litre FSI engine, the standard output of which was 197bhp.
First registered in September 2006, ‘G10 GLF’ features grey three-door bodywork matched to dark grey leather interior trim, and the car rides on its original Monza alloy wheels that are nowadays shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. The engine is from a later vehicle, and was installed last year together with a new cam belt, water pump and clutch, at which time the rest of the car was treated to a full service. The bodywork, interior and stereo system are all original, while recent maintenance has included refurbishment of the front wheels, plus the replacement of all the centre caps, tyre valves and bonnet strut. The only obvious clue to the VW’s current total mileage is the wear on the outer bolster of the driver’s seat, otherwise the car presents well and is felt by the vendor to have ‘excellent engine and six-speed manual transmission, ‘good’ interior trim, and ‘average to good’ bodywork and paintwork. The car comes with such niceties as heated front seats and complete with history file and an MOT valid to October 25.
