This very tidily-presented Traveller has had just three registered owners from new. Following the renewal of the seat covers and carpets and a boot retrim by the previous keeper, the mighty Morris has recently benefited from some structural work. This has included the replacement of the floor pan; inner and outer sills; jacking points; offside front inner and outer wing; and repairs to the woodwork. It is now considered by the vendor to have ‘good’ bodywork, grey paintwork and blue upholstery, and ‘average’ A Series engine and four-speed manual gearbox. This charming British classic is now being offered complete with its original driver’s handbook, service passport and sales invoice, plus a selection of old MOTs and bills from 2017 and 2018.
Designed by Alec Issigonis (who later penned the ubiquitous Mini), the Morris Minor was unveiled at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show. There were two variants at launch – a two-door saloon and Tourer. The four-door saloon followed in 1950 and the popular Traveller, van and pick-up versions completed the range two years later. With the Series II of 1952 came a new, Austin-designed engine – the ‘A’ Series 803cc OHV unit. The more major update of 1956 saw the engine increased in capacity to 948cc (the car was now renamed the Minor 1000), the rear window of the saloon enlarged and the split-screen front one replaced with a single glass. The final iteration appeared in 1962 and featured a further increase in engine capacity to 1098cc. The practical Traveller versions were assembled at the MG plant in Abingdon from front halves built at Cowley and the timber-framed rear sections fashioned in Coventry. Total production was just over 180,000.
