The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 37

1985 Ford Capri 2.8i Special
**NO RESERVE**

Registration - B131 KNP

Chassis No. - WF0CXXGAECFJ07507

M.O.T. - July 2024

Odometer - 33,091

Quite a lot of late model Capris are coming to market at present, in varying levels of condition. This is an interesting example for, though its bodywork and the outward state of the engine suggest periods of idleness, it is notable for only having had three keepers who’ve amassed an unwarranted but credibly low total mileage of 33,091 miles between them. It also seems very original, and still wears the rear window sticker and number plates of its supplying dealer, Brooklyn Ford of Redditch. Finished in silver and trimmed grey half leather interior trim, it rides on period correct seven-spoke alloy wheels shod with Maxxis tyres. The vendor presently grades the V6 engine and five-speed manual transmission as ‘good’ and the coupe bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘average’. He is offering the fast Ford complete with sunroof and related wind deflector, tow pack, pair of Hella spot lights, the original Recaro seats and Ford radio/cassette player, book pack and a selection of invoices that include one from Brooklyn Ford for the wind deflector, tow bar and auxiliary lights.

Popular in the ‘70s and ‘80s, Europe’s answer to the Mustang is hot property once again, and for many enthusiasts the pick of the Capri bunch is the 2.8i. Worthwhile improvements came with the MKII models of 1974 and the quadruple headlamp MKIII cars introduced in 1978. Then in 1981 the venerable 3-litre Essex-engined variants were dropped in favour of the 2.8i – a single car range powered by the lusty fuel-injected Cologne V6 engine. Power rose to 160bhp and, soon after launch, the old four-speed gearbox was replaced with a more contemporary five-speed unit. Ford now had a stylish four-seat coupe with the performance to shame rivals four times as expensive – it could hit 60mph in 7.8 seconds and top 130mph flat out. Introduced in 1984, the ‘Special’ variant of the already well-quipped 2.8i boasted seven-spoke alloy wheels, half-leather seats and other attractive features, paving the way for the 280, the model’s final iteration.

In summary:

  • Seemingly just three keepers and just 33,091 miles from new
  • Comes with sunroof, tow pack, spot lights and radio/cassette
  • Being sold at No Reserve
