Rare and magnificent in Maritime Blue, this example of Ford’s second generation Fiesta is not only in exceptional condition for its age, but also fitted with the infrequently specified automatic transmission. Here, ‘E950 NNV’ is powered with Ford’s 1.1-litre Valencia four-cylinder petrol engine, the CVT transmission drive the front wheels of this three-door model. This L trim Fiesta is fitted with bodycolour bumpers, with black plastic reinforcements, with two-spoke steering wheel, push-button radio, and grey upholstered seating in the cabin.
‘E950 NNV’ is described by the vendor as a ‘time warp’ example, and is offered for sale having had just two owners prior to the current keeper - the second kept the car for 32 years. Following her passing, the Fiesta was locked away for a decade, before being bought and restored by the current keeper. With only 34,000 miles indicated on the odometer, these are not guaranteed, but there is documentation supporting the supposition that ‘E950 NNV’ has not been around the clock already, including a number of MOT certificates. These join an extensive folder of paperwork, that includes many tax discs, servicing receipts, and all the documentation for the necessary restoration. This has seen the brake system rebuilt, and pepperpot alloy wheels added with new tyres. The interior is described as ‘like new’, which unsurprisingly sees the vendor rate it as ‘excellent’. All other areas of ‘E950 NNV’ are considered ‘good’ too, including engine, transmission, electrics, bodywork, and paintwork.
Following on from the highly successful first generation, 1983 saw Ford launch the ‘difficult second album’… but it got the formula bang on. The second generation Fiesta arrived with a number of styling changes, a wider range of engine options, and the usual plethora of three- and five-door hatchback, XR2 hot hatch, and even LCV van. Despite competition being fierce, the Fiesta remained the best-selling supermini in the UK, regularly topping sales charts both here and across Europe. Available in Popular, Popular Plus, L, Fiesta II, Ghia, 1.4S, and XR2 specifications, there was a choice of 950cc, 1.1-litre, 1.4-litre, and 1.6-litre petrol engines, as well as a 1.6-litre diesel, depending on model, driving a four- or five-speed manual gearbox, or a CVT transmission. The second generation Fiesta remained in production until 1989, when it was replaced by the third generation model.
