February 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 38

1992 Mercedes-Benz 190E
From long term family ownership. In excellent condition, accompanied by comprehensive history file.

Registration - K197 AEC

Chassis No. - WDB2010182G040797

M.O.T. - February 2023

Odometer - 96,000

This exquisitely-presented 190E was first registered to the Mercedes dealer in Ashton-in-Makerfield on November 23, 1992. However, the very next day it was bought by the owner’s late husband, so has effectively remained in single family ownership from new. It features lustrous, virtually unmarked Signal Red bodywork that is teamed with grey cloth interior trim, the only item of which thought to warrant attention is the worn gear lever gaiter, as everything else appears to be in tip top order. The car was last serviced at 96,351 miles, since when it has barely been used. The vendor of this extraordinary family saloon currently regards the 1.8-litre engine and four-door bodywork as being in ‘excellent’ order, and the five-speed manual transmission, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. The Mercedes is now being sold complete with factory-fitted sunroof, a meticulous service record, and a complete set of invoices, tax discs and MOTs that chart the car’s history from day one, plus a current MOT valid for the next 12 months. If you’re in the market for a 190E, then it’s hard to see how you could do much better than ‘K197 AEC’.

The precursor to the C-Class, the W210 190 was Daimler-Benz’s compact executive offering from 1983 until 1993. The car featured anti-dive and squat geometry as standard and was available with airbags, ABS, seatbelt tensioners and other safety features generally well ahead of their time. There was just one body style – a three-box, four-door saloon. A total of nearly 1.9 million 190s were produced during the model’s 10-year reign, many of which are still providing sterling service today. Thought by Mercedes to have been over-engineered, it is considered by many owners to be a better option than the C-Class range that replaced it!

In summary:

  • Single family ownership since new
  • Meticulous service history
  • Comprehensive collection of supporting paperwork
