With the innovative MKI Renault Twingo never coming to the UK, the MKII car was eagerly awaited. It was a different beast, however, and this time the range was topped with the smallest Renaultsport car the firm produced – the Twingo RS133. ‘RJ61DVB’ dates from the end of 2011 and so escapes the somewhat fussy looking 2012 facelift. ‘RJ61DVB’ has undergone some performance modifications to present very well and in a highly individualised way. These include aftermarket alloy wheels, lowered suspension and new headlamps. The vendor confirms that ‘RJ61DVB’ comes with three sets of wheels, the original suspension set up and headlights should a return to stock specification be required. ‘RJ61DVB’ has a valid MOT until April 2025 so is ready to enjoy immediately.

‘RJ61DVB’ presents in a crisp white livery with RS badging and Renaultsport decals and stickers generously applied. The RS133 differentiated prominent wheel arches and rear hatch spoiler are noted. With the lowered suspension and bigger wheels ‘RJ61DVB’ exhibits a sporting, hunkered down stance. Despite its diminutive size the Twingo’s interior is surprisingly accommodating and flexible. Its rear seats fold and slide forward individually to balance between luggage and passenger needs. The heart of the Twing RS133, however, is its rev-hungry, naturally aspirated 1.6 litre four cylinder engine. Originally rated at 131bhp and with a 7,000 rpm red line this endows this light and lithe RS with smile inducing road dynamics. The handling of the RS Twingo is especially revered with its short wheelbase, wide track and “wheel at each corner” configuration. In terms of condition the vendor rates all aspects of the Twingo as “good.”

Following the arrival of a new, MKIII Twingo and a divisive 2012 facelift the RS133 was discontinued in 2013. With just a shade over 1,000 kg to move around the 131bhp Twingo RS soon became a favourite on those on a budget who wanted ample performance and sublime handling in a surprisingly practical, diminutive package.
