September 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 39

1984 Ford P100
A rare survivor in exceptional condition

Registration - A295 DUF

Chassis No. - AFMPXXPSBPDP33961

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - 22,242

‘A295 DVF’ is a rare righthand drive survivor of a now largely forgotten model – it is believed less than 250 examples are currently licensed for UK roads. Finished in red and trimmed in grey vinyl, it was first registered in the January of 1984 and is in remarkable order for what was, after all, intended as a workhorse. It has been the property of a self-acclaimed enthusiast , who informs us that the pickup has been dry stored as part of a private collection and says ‘there is no visible rot and the Ford runs and drives well’. In summary, he currently considers the manual transmission to be in ‘excellent’ order and the 1.6-litre Pinto petrol engine, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘good’ condition. The pickup is now being sold complete with tow bar, radio/cassette player, twin spot lights, load bay tonneau and a full 12 months’ worth of MOT. The vendor believes the pleasingly low indicated mileage of 22,242 to be correct.

Ford’s car-based pickup was produced from 1971 to 1995, first in South Africa and then Portugal. Versions were derived from the MKIII, IV and V Cortina and ultimately the Sierra. It was in 1982 that what had been sold in South Africa as the Ford Cortina Pickup was now renamed the P100 and made available on the European market for the first time. Though car production in Europe was about to switch from the MKV Cortina to the new Sierra, the P100 retained its Cortina roots until being rebodied with a Sierra-based cab in 1988. The sale car is therefore based on the MKV Cortina.

In summary:

  • A very well-presented survivor of a rare breed
  • Dry stored as part of a private collection
  • Currently indicating just 22,242 miles from new
