If you want something extra-special for the summer, this 1970 Volkswagen Beach Buggy is for you. Resplendent in metal flake orange over red on a black base, with a black interior, it is described as a VW Shark buggy on a short wheelbase, which “looks absolutely spectacular and gets amazingly positive comments wherever it’s seen”. Bodywork, paintwork and interior are all descried as ‘excellent’. The vendor says it was possibly a sandrail in a previous life, considering the roll frame and reinforced box section framework. Sandrails are ultra-specialised, lightweight and agile vehicles that run on actual sand dunes. When the vendor acquired it, they reimagined what was then described as an “ugly duckling”, with over 200 hours of work transforming it into the striking machine it is today. “I have a couple of photos of what it looked like before if needed,” they say.

‘CPD600H’ boasts a Type 3 disc front beam that has been grafted onto the shortened Beetle chassis. “It’s an incredibly solid bit of kit, with rebuilt calipers featuring disc brakes.” The 1,500cc engine is described as appearing to have recently been rebuilt. “I would say it’s not done very many miles,” says the vendor, which describes it as being in ‘excellent’ condition. “It also sounds amazing! It is a little bit loud, but that only adds to the experience of driving a buggy.” Although it doesn’t have any history from the previous keeper, the vendor says it starts easily, “pulls like a train” and has no front-end float. They believe it hasn’t done many miles in its current configuration and, indeed, the odometer only reads 282 miles. This two-seat Volkswagen Beach Buggy is MOT- and tax-exempt, with the 1970 machine having a distinctive registration number. Will need re-commissioning has been running recently.

In summary:

· “Spectacular-looking” 1970 Volkswagen Beach Buggy

· Type 3 disc front beam

· Hundreds of hours have gone into it

Will need to be trailered
