The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 40

1991 Nissan Figaro
**NO RESERVE**

Registration - H389 BAU

Chassis No. - FK10-005474

M.O.T. - January 2024

Odometer - 165,000

‘H389 BAU’ was first UK registered in November 2005, since when it’s had a total of just four keepers, the most recent of whom is a lady who’s a declared enthusiast for the model and a member of the Figaro Owners Club. Her car is a Lapis Grey one that’s still trimmed in its original cream leather. She informs us that the Nissan has: been treated to replacement bumpers, hood, battery and handbrake cable; had a reconditioned steering rack installed; and the rear arches renewed and the paintwork amended accordingly. She presently grades the car’s engine and transmission as ‘excellent’, the bodywork as ‘good’, paintwork as ‘average’ and upholstery as ‘below average’. She is now making the Nissan available for sale at No Reserve, complete with all the bills and receipts relating to the work done. The odometer currently stands at a total mileage of 165,496 kilometres (102,834 miles).

Nissan’s characterful little Figaro convertible was introduced to the world at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, for which the Japanese company used ‘Back to the Future’ as its marketing tagline. The 2+2 model was based on the Micra of the day, and featured a front-mounted 987cc turbo engine of 75bhp driving the front wheels via a three-speed automatic gearbox. A design critic writing for the New York times described the Figaro as ‘the height of postmodernism and unabashedly retro, promiscuously combining elements of the Citroën 2 CV, Renault 4, classic Mini and Fiat 500’! Whatever your take on the design, it caused quite a stir at launch and continues to do so today. Amazingly, production was limited to a single year (1991), during which a total of only 20,073 were produced, all of which were equipped with righthand drive. The model was offered in just four colours that were intended to represent the seasons of the year – Emerald Green (spring), Pale Aqua (summer), Topaz Mist (autumn) and Lapis Grey (winter).

In summary:

  • Owned by a lady Figaro enthusiast since 2011
  • Recently the subject of a number of replacement parts
  • Being sold at No Reserve
