Judging by the date of manufacture and its plush interior that’s equipped with red seat belts and red-piped grey velvet trimmed seats featuring the logo 25, ‘B770 WYB’ started life as one of just 3,511 special edition Minis built in celebration of the little model’s 25th anniversary. If so, it has been upgraded in many ways, not least by the recent fitment of a 1330cc engine complete with stage-three cylinder head, Kent 276 camshaft, lightened flywheel, A 1.75 inch SU carbrettor, electronic ignition and stainless steel exhaust system. Polished stainless steel wheelarches shield Minilite-style wheels shod with new Yokohama tyres, while the bodywork is finished in white over red. Other enhancements include an alloy rocker cover, silicone engine hoses, woodrim steering wheel and a quick release fuel filler cap. We understand the car has recently been treated to new brake discs and calipers, and is now available for sale complete with tinted rear windows and a current MOT valid into September next year. The odometer presently registers a total mileage of 66,296.
The original Mini was a revolution on wheels - with the engine placed across the frame and the gearbox in its sump, 80 percent of the floorpan area was available for passengers and luggage. During its 41 years of production, the mould-breaking model was offered in numerous limited editions, of which the Mini 25 was one. Based on the popular Mini Mayfair, Mini 25s were created in celebration of the model’s two and a half decades of production. All examples were powered by a 998cc version of the ubiquitous A Series engine and finished in Silver Leaf Metallic.
