Finished in Metallic Imperial Crimson with a contrasting stone leather interior, this 2001 Morgan Plus Eight is a particularly well-presented example that has clearly been cherished. The vendor informs us it is accompanied by an extensive history file, including full service history, receipts, original purchase documentation and correspondence from Life’s Motors of Southport. A number of tasteful extras enhance the car, among them heated windscreen and seats, stainless bumpers, bonnet catches, luggage rack, Le Mans filler cap and mohair fast-action Simmonds hood system with hood bag and full tonneau. Inside, the Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel and walnut dashboard set the tone, while externally Cibie headlamps and colour-coded spotlights complete the period presentation.
Power comes from the venerable 3,946cc Rover V8, here fitted with Tornado engine management chips, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Librands stainless steel manifolds and full stainless exhaust. Further upgrades include a cowl box air scoop, K&N filters, and a fan override switch. The suspension has been uprated with front and rear AVO dampers, a Panhard rod, rear axle centralising blocks, brake reaction bars, hard chrome kingpins, Mulfab front springs and remote greasing kit, together with Mulfab vented discs. The underside has also been rust treated and sealed.
The Morgan Plus Eight, introduced in 1968, quickly became one of the marque’s most desirable models, combining traditional British coachbuilding with the torque-rich Rover V8. Production spanned more than three decades, with continual refinements ensuring it remained the fastest and most powerful Morgan of its era. Widely regarded as the ultimate evolution of the classic ladder-frame Morgan, the Plus Eight offers a visceral driving experience with charm and practicality in equal measure.
