  Lot 41

2002 MG ZT-T 180 Auto

Chassis No. - SARRJXTNM3D260582

Registration - BL52 LMX

M.O.T. - September 2021

Odometer – 75,020

MG’s ZT-T model was immortalised in 2003 when a specially-prepared 800bhp version became the world’s fastest (non-production) estate car, with a heady top speed of c.226mph. ‘BL52 LMX’ may not offer that level of performance, but is an attractive buy in today’s market. The eye-catching Solar red paintwork is teamed with grey interior trim and the car has covered a modest 75,020 miles from new, and a mere 19 since being MOT’d last September. The automatic MG has been in its present ownership since March 2018, during which time its 175bhp 2.5-litre V6 engine has been treated to a full set of new engine drive belts and water pump. The vendor informs us that the car ‘has the inevitable little chips and scuffs commensurate with its age, but presents very well’. Apparently the driver’s seat, which can suffer badly on this model, ‘has virtually no wear, while the rest of the interior, including the headlining, is equally good’. This attractive ZT-T is now available complete with (slightly dog-eared!) dog guard/load cover and handy tow hook.

Offered in both saloon and estate guise, ZT and ZT-T respectively, this memorable model from MG was ultimately available with a wide choice of engines and both manual and automatic transmission. It was basically a sportier version of its Rover 75 stablemate, the effect of which was achieved courtesy of genuine performance upgrades for the engines, brakes and suspension, and revised styling inside and out – the latter being the work of Peter Stevens, the man who also penned the McLaren F1 and X180 version of the Lotus Esprit. Some 27,150 ZT/ZT-Ts were manufactured between 2001 and 2005.

In summary:

  • Modest total mileage of 75,020
  • The MG presents well for its age with generally very tidy interior
  • A very practical and affordable proposition
