May 2022 Classics Auction

  Lot 44

1961 Autobianchi Bianchina Panoramica
Rare Panoramica model with sunroof

Registration - CA3 8207 (Italian plate)

Chassis No. - 014838

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 48,470

So when did you last see one of these - a rare sight in its native Italy, never mind the UK? A 1961 example, the Panoramica was apparently restored in its homeland in 2017 - a comprehensive operation that included an engine rebuild and a bare metal respray of the rust-free body. Its pretty pale blue paintwork is matched to blue/black interior trim and the vendor presently grades the 500cc engine, four-speed manual gearbox, three-door bodywork and paintwork as ‘good’, and the upholstery as ‘excellent’. The Autobianchi was imported to the UK in 2019 and registered on its Italian plate CA3 8207 (a NOVA certificate was evidently not required at the time). Its odometer presently displays an unwarranted but credible 48,470 kilometres from new, and this charming little estate is now being sold complete with sunroof, Italian Certificate of Title and its most recent bill of sale.

The Italian carmaker Autobianchi was a partnership between Bianchi, Fiat and Pirelli that produced a variety of small cars from 1955. It was ultimately integrated with Lancia and terminated with the cessation of Lancia/Autobianchi Y10 production in 1995. The conglomerate’s first car was the Bianchina. Based on Fiat 500 mechanicals it featured the same rear-mounted, two-cylinder, air-cooled engine but a completely fresh design of body penned by Luigi Rapi. The model was positioned above its Fiat cousin in the market, with a price tag to match. The first version, the Trasformabile (a type of two-door landaulet) appeared in 1957 and was followed three years later by the Cabriolet (a fully convertible option), the Berlina (a two-door saloon), the Panoramica (a three-door estate version) and a couple of van variants.

In summary:

  • A very rare estate car based on Fiat 500 mechanicals
  • Fully restored in 2017 and imported to the UK in 2019
  • Comes complete with Italian Certificate of Title
