Lot 44

1963 Dodge Dart GT

Registration - NWT 665A

Chassis No. - 7332655877

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 13,152

A rare piece of Sixties Americana, this left-hand drive example of Dodge’s convertible Dart is presented in brilliant white with matching roof. Fitted with parent firm Chrysler’s 225 cu in ‘Slant 6’ – a 3.7-litre straight six unit – and three-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission, ‘NWT 665A’, and comes with working electric folding roof. Fitted out in high-specification GT trim, it features period styling features such as moon chrome hubcaps, and the four-seater, two-door convertible’s interior includes a push-button gear selector, original (though not working) radio, and branded black upholstery with white piping.

Described by the current owner as a ‘usable classic’ with ‘lovely patina’, and an American model that can ‘actually fit down roads in the UK’, ‘NWT 665A’ was imported from the States in 2020, and first registered in 2021. With a five-digit odometer reading an indicated 13,152 miles – unwarranted considering its imported history – the Dart is MOT exempt, is fitted with new seatbelts, and has recently had work on the suspension, an oil and filters change, and a full brake service. Considered ‘beautifully kept’ by the vendor, they describe the engine, electrics, and paintwork as in ‘average’ condition, and the transmission, bodywork, and interior as ‘good’.

  • Highly original American classic
  • Four-seat convertible with working powered folding roof
  • Classic style with practical interior

The third-generation of Dodge’s Dart arrived in 1963, and was available as a two- or four-door saloon, a four-door estate, two-door coupe, or two-door convertible. Moving down a size category compared to the outgoing model, the new Dart was pitched as a ‘senior compact’, and offered with 2.8- or 3.7-litre ‘Slant 6’ engines from Chrysler – a straight six, with cylinder bank canted over 30-degrees – and a 4.5-litre V8. These were matched to either a three- or four-speed manual gearbox, or a three-speed Torqueflite auto. Three specifications were offered when new; an entry-level 170, mid-range 270, and range-topping GT, before the fourth-generation Dart was introduced in 1967.
