March 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 45

1973 Jaguar E-Type Roadster 5.3
Only 12,000 miles since new

Registration - XGU 954M

Chassis No. - 151889

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 12,332

Fresh from our recent success with the Only Fools and Horses Series 3 E-Type, we are now offering another stunning example that has travelled just 12,332 miles from new. Finished in the arresting livery of Primrose Yellow bodywork, black hood and black leather upholstery, it is a matching numbers UK example that came off line at Browns Lane on June 9, 1973. It was despatched 18 days later to the supplying dealer of Fletchers Swansea and then registered to its first keeper, a David Fogden of Bath, on September 30. He retained the Jaguar for four years before selling it to a Brian Dignan on August 1977 for £4,800, by which time it had amassed 10,000 miles. The E-Type then remained a part of Mr Dignan’s car collection until he passed away in 2017 – just 1,500 miles were added during his 40-year tenure; an average of 37.5 per annum!

The roadster has subsequently been recommissioned with some £20,000-£30,000 being invested in the replacement of the manifolds, cooling system, clutch and brakes etc. It is believed the paintwork is totally original and the underside has never needed attention, having been Ziebarted back in the 1970s. The vendor informs us that the interior needed no more than some ‘light cleaning’ and that the seats are ‘as new complete with their original glue’, while the wiring loom retains its original paper build tags’. Unsurprisingly, he presently considers the V12 engine, five-speed manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘excellent’ order. This very desirable E-Type is now being sold complete with both sets of keys and the original dealer-supplied key ring, handbooks, factory wiring diagram, Heritage Certificate, copy of the advert and bill of sale from Mr Dignall’s purchase, and full photographic history of the recommissioning programme plus various other items of paperwork and old MOT certificates. A unique opportunity for E-Type enthusiasts everywhere.

In summary:

• An extraordinarily original, unmolested, manual gearbox example

• Just 12,332 miles from new

• Recently treated to a c.£30,000 recommissioning programme
