  Lot 46

1969 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller
**NO RESERVE** In current family ownership since new

Registration - TKB 917G

Chassis No. - MAW51252717

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 81,016

‘TKB 917G’ was purchased new in 1969 by the vendor’s late husband. He was a classic car enthusiast who belonged to the Morris Minor Club and much treasured his car. The vendor recalls that it took them on their first date, served as their wedding car, and regularly transported them to France and back over many years. She informs us that the mighty Morris has been garaged throughout its life and treated to regular maintenance. It has also benefited from a degree of restoration as required, including having the timberwork replaced in the 1990s and the two front wings and headlights replaced in 2022, while a fresh as yet unfitted headlining forms part of the lot. She nowadays grades the A Series engine, estate car bodywork and Duck Egg Blue paintwork as ‘good’ and the blue vinyl interior trim as ‘average’. The Traveller is now being made available complete with no less than four exterior mirrors, fire extinguisher, an extensive history file and a large quantity of spare parts, many of which are brand new, including an electric heated windscreen, new headling, door linings and more. The total recorded mileage is 81,016, which equates to just 1,500 miles per annum.

Designed by Alec Issigonis, the Morris Minor was unveiled at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show. With the Series II of 1952 came a new, Austin-designed engine – the ‘A Series’ 803cc OHV unit. The more major update of 1956 saw the engine increased in capacity to 948cc (the car was now renamed the Minor 1000), the rear window of the saloon enlarged and the split-screen front one replaced with a single glass. The final iteration appeared in 1962 and featured a further increase in engine capacity to 1098cc. The practical Traveller versions were assembled at the MG plant in Abingdon from front halves built at Cowley and the timber-framed rear sections fashioned in Coventry. Total production of the variant was just over 180,000.

In summary:

  • Single family ownership and 81,016 miles to date
  • A much treasured example that’s been garaged from new
  • Restored as required and regularly maintained
